Dawn at Walker Canyon

March 30, 2019

There's not much that would get me up before sunrise, except for the chance to photograph a sea of orange poppies (and go hiking with good friends).

LA Flower Market

July 25, 2015
I've wanted to visit the LA Flower Market for the longest time, but I always find a reason not to go (too far away, too early, etc). Well I finally made it there last Saturday and I'm so happy that I went! I ended up buying some amazing roses for only $3!! And this is totally random, but I've always wanted to have a reason to carry around a giant bouquet of flowers wrapped in newspaper. So you can imagine my excitement when I was finally able to do that! I should also mention that when you walk around DTLA with a bouquet of flowers, strangers will randomly come up to you and say, "Are those for me!? I've always wanted flowers hahaha!" True story, guys. PS Expect a new Flower Studies post in the near future!

On random acts of kindness:

Earlier this week, I was given a dessert for free at one of my favorite food spots. I insisted on paying, partly because I actually wanted to break a $20 bill, but the cashier refused and went ahead and gave me the change I needed anyways. This person unknowingly made my day! My friend pointed out that maybe they needed to give away the dessert because somebody had changed their order. I choose to believe that the worker was just being nice. The point of the story is that you never know how one small gesture can affect another person. To be honest, I was kind of having a rough week and that simple act of kindness completely turned my attitude around. I was, and still am, extremely grateful.

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."  ~ Leo Buscaglia

Flower Studies: White Roses {Blue Destruction}

January 9, 2015

These are not the original photos that I intended to make, but nevertheless I ended up with something amazing! First of all, I really wanted to shoot on brown craft paper but alas, Michael's was out of stock. So then I figured, why not try something new? This blue paper caught my eye AND it was super cheap at 99¢/sheet. So I took everything home and started shooting my usual flower shots, but they weren't turning out quite right. Next thing I know, I'm ripping up flower petals and cutting off stems and I was left with this beautiful mess. Needless to say, I'm really proud of how these images came out.

And if you're wondering about that random lemon photo, I photographed that simply because there was a huge bag of lemons sitting in our kitchen. My mom just harvested a ton of them from our backyard and I thought to myself, that shade of yellow against that shade of blue would look so good together! I liked it so much that I decided to throw it into this flower studies post!

On a more somber note, Paris has been on my mind a lot these past couple of days because of the tragic events that occurred over there. I have such a special place in my heart for that city and its people, and all I can say is that my thoughts/prayers/love/support are with them. #JeSuisCharlie
